Blepharoplasty Procedure
This cosmetic surgical procedure intends to reshape the upper eyelid or lower eyelid by the removal and/or repositioning of excess tissue. The procedure also reinforces the surrounding muscles and tendons.
Medical needs
When an advanced amount of upper eyelid skin is present, the skin may hang over the eyelashes and cause of loss of peripheral vision. The outer and upper parts of the visual field are most commonly affected. Such condition may result in difficulty with activities such as driving or reading.
Cosmetic needs
Patients with a less severe amount of excess skin may still wish to undergo similar procedure for cosmetic reasons. Lower eyelid blepharoplasty is almost always done for cosmetic reasons, to improve puffy lower eyelid "bags" and reduce the wrinkling of skin.
The procedure
Blepharoplasty is performed through external incisions made along the natural skin lines of the eyelids. Such location may be the creases of the upper lids and below the lashes of the lower lids, or from the inside surface of the lower eyelid.
Duration
The operation takes one to three hours to complete, depending on the scope of the procedure. Initial swelling and bruising take one to two weeks to resolve. However, until the final result becomes stable, it needs at least several months to heal.
The outcome
The cosmetic outcome of the procedure depends on the anatomy of the upper/lower eyelids, the patients' skin quality, the patients' age, and the bony tissues and soft tissues which are adjacent to the location the Blepharoplasty took place.
Complications
There are factors known to cause complications after surgery. Failure to recognize such factors before the operation may result in undesired outcome. For example, such factors may be:
• Pre-existing dry eyes. The situation after operation may become worse, by disrupting the natural tear film;
• Laxity (looseness) of the lower lid margin (edge), which caused lower lid malposition;
• Prominence of the eye in relation to the malar (cheek) complex, which causes lower lid malposition.

Driving in Vancouver can be confusing since no freeways run into downtown Vancouver, and signage is often confusing and\or wrong. Two main highways run through Greater Vancouver. Highway #1 is the Trans Canada highway which enters the city from the east. Highway 99 runs from the USA/Canada border to Whistler, it is the Canadian extension of the USA's Interstate 5 which starts in San Diego. Highway 99 does not run as a freeway through the city of Vancouver, after the Oak Street bridge HWY99 runs North on Oak street then runs West on Park Drive and finally continues North on Granville street into downtown Vancouver.

Greater Vancouver has two major ferry terminals, the largest is the Tsawwassen terminal which connects Vancouver with both Nanaimo and Victoria on Vancouver Island. Horseshoe bay a slightly smaller terminal services Nanaimo, Bowen Island and the Sunshine Coast. Both terminals are far enough from the city core that you will need to travel by car or bus to get to them. In terms of bus transportation, the various coach services are recommended over public transit. Public buses to and from the ferry terminals are time-consuming and frustrating.

- Objectives To improve (1) recognition of eyebrow ptosis, asymmetry, or deformity and (2) selection of the appropriate surgical technique based on the patient's underlying etiology.
Design Nonrandomized, retrospective study of patients undergoing surgical correction of eyebrow asymmetry. Forty consecutive patients were identified as having asymmetric eyebrow ptosis or deformity. Varying etiologies included those that were congenital, posttraumatic, age-related, iatrogenic, or idiopathic, with or without facial nerve paralysis. Patients underwent a variety of surgical approaches for correction of the eyebrow malposition, including transblepharoplasty, midforehead, coronal, and endoscopic procedures. Preoperative evaluation of patients, identification of patient-specific appropriate surgical technique, and photographs and grading of postoperative results are discussed.
Results All patients had a minimum follow-up period of at least 4 months (mean, 15 months; range, 4 months to 3 years). Preoperative and postoperative photographs were obtained and graded. Complete symmetry was achieved in 8 patients (20%), considerable improvement in 23 patients (57%), modest improvement in 7 patients (18%), and no improvement in 2 patients (5%). No notable postoperative complications were reported. Recommendations for improving results are included.
Conclusions The key to correction of eyebrow ptosis in patients undergoing reconstructive and cosmetic surgery is to first recognize the asymmetry. It is also important to note the effect of reconstructive and cosmetic surgical procedures on eyebrow position in order to limit the need to perform additional procedures to correct resultant eyebrow asymmetries and deformities. Finally, the surgeon must consider which eyebrow-lift technique is optimal for the patient's underlying etiology to improve postoperative results and patient satisfaction.
