Labiaplasty Procedure

(Labia reduction, re-shaping outer and inner lips)

Labiaplasty is one of the three major areas of cosmetic vaginal surgeries.
The procedure aims to correct dysfunctions and improve the woman's hidden aesthetics.

The way a woman feels about the look and sensation in her vagina and pubic areas has a major impact on her self-esteem, her sexual desire, and her intimate relationship.

There are three major areas of Cosmetic Vaginal Surgeries, aimed to rejuvenate a woman’s sexual feeling:
• Labia surgery (labiaplasty, labia reduction and look improvement, correcting the size and shape of the inner and outer lips)
• Vaginal reconstruction and rejuvenation (vaginoplasty, mainly vaginal tightening)
• Hymenoplasty (hymen reconstruction, “bringing back to virginity”)

Labia reduction
Many women want to ease discomfort associated with large or thick labia. Not just the look, but thick labia often interfere with biking, working out, and wearing tight fitting clothes. Large labia causes irritation, rubbing and discomfort during sexual intercourse, exercising, or while wearing certain types of clothing.

As well, many women want to enhance or improve appearance of a “butterfly”, or an asymmetrical labia. Feeling good about how you look often builds self-confidence and self-esteem.

Labiaplasty can be combined with other cosmetic surgeries. Most women who opt for labiaplasty also choose tummy tucks and liposuction.

Labia procedures may include liposuction of the Mount of Venus (for a bulky pubic area) and augmentation of the Mount of Venus (for an atrophied pubic area).

Vaginal physiological state significantly affects a woman’s physiological state. Structure reconstruction of the vagina area may well bring back the younger feel, and contribute the sexual life and self esteem improvement a woman is looking for.
Some surgeons perform procedures involving laser surgery, where others use methods such as radiosurgical techniques or scalpel techniques.
Your doctor / surgeon will explain how long the surgery will take, the amount of time and care necessary for a full recovery, and exactly when after surgery it would be safe to resume sexual intercourse.

This surgery can also relate to the labia majora (larger outer lips) to make it less prominent. Labia surgery is most often done in the operating room but in many cases surgery can be done in the office under local anaesthetic at dramatically decreased costs. This procedure takes 60 to 90 minutes to perform.

Parallel to undergoing cosmetic surgery, some alternatives should be considered as well. Such include exercises, medical therapies and psychosocial counselling.

Most patients are very happy after vaginal, often wishing to have had surgery much earlier. Their regained vaginal sensation and look well improves their quality of life.

Labia Surgery Costs depend on your choice of doctor and location. Prices may range between $3,000 and $8,000.

  • Canada By train

Via Rail is Canada's national passenger rail service. Amtrak provides connecting rail service to Toronto and Montreal, and thruway service between Seattle and Vancouver.

Be wary though. Not many private citizens in Canada take the train as a regular means of transportation. Most citizens simply drive to where they want to go if the distance is short (which in Canada can still mean hundreds of kilometres!), or fly if the distance is long.

  • Canada By plane

You are likely to arrive to Canada by air, most likely into Montreal, Toronto or Vancouver (the 3 largest cities, from East to West). But other airports in Canada also have international (mostly from the US) flights as well, particularly (from east to west), Halifax, Moncton, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon, Calgary, Edmonton, and Victoria.

Plastic Surgery News...

  • This BMJ review on gynaecomastia and breast cancer in men addresses the following questions: • What is gynaecomastia? • How do hormones affect the breast? • What are the hormone sources in men? • When is gynaecomastia physiological? • What disorders or drugs enlarge the breast? • Who is at higher risk for breast cancer? • How should male breast tissue be evaluated? • Metastatic and non-malignant breast masses • When and how should gynaecomastia be treated? • How is male breast cancer treated? The article notes that 1% of breast cancers occur in men, with higher rates in men with a family history of breast cancer or previous chest radiation; they typically have more advanced breast cancer at diagnosis than women, but management is similar. With regards to treatment for painful or embarrassing gynaecomastia, an anti-oestrogen such as tamoxifen, or surgery (liposuction or mammoplasty) are the usual options.

  • The author of this article looks at how good design solutions could prevent the harm caused to many patients each year due to medical errors. Patient safety is now a focus in the NHS and the author notes, “In the United Kingdom and elsewhere there is new enthusiasm for invention, innovation, and redesign”. As an example, a current project involves the development of a new connector to prevent intravenous drugs being injected through the spinal route. The author refers to “innovation hubs” that people working in the NHS in England can approach if they have an idea or design to make health care safer. Innovation hubs are a collaboration between the Department of Health and the Department of Trade and Industry and there is one in each region of the country. The author ends by quoting the Chief Medical Officer for England and Wales, who has said: “Design skills play a major part in safety in other sectors that healthcare has been slow to embrace. Seemingly simple applications, such as medicine packaging and labelling, have hardly been exploited while patients continue to be harmed from look-alike, sound-alike medication errors. Design experts should be part of every team that seeks to find an effective solution to a major source of risk in patient care. This should embrace both technological areas but also so called soft systems. The power of design has a potential to make health care of tomorrow safer than it is today. It should be used, and used with open mindedness and imagination."
