Liposuction in Vancouver Canada

The procedure can "sculpture " your body by removing extra fat from tummy, buttocks, arms, knees, cheeks and neck.. You must remember that liposuction is not an alternative for diet and exercise, it's main target is to help remove extra fat from areas in which fat reduction cannot be done successfully by dieting.

The ideal candidates for the surgery are people with normal weight, elastic skin and areas of "fat pockets" in their body. There are no age limits but older people has less elastic skin and therefore might get results that are worse then the younger patients.

Liposuction can be done by several techniques: solution injection - in which the surgeon injects a special solution to the fat tissue. The solution consists of anesthetics to reduce pain. Adrenalin to reduce bleeding and fluid to help separate the fat from the tissue.

The tumescent technique - much larger amounts of solution is being injected. Surgeons use this method, which allows to inject large amounts of anesthetics, and therefore this kind of procedure can be done with local anesthetics. The operation usually takes longer than the first one (4-5 hours).

The super wet technique in which the amount of solution injected equals the amount of fat tissue removed. This method also takes longer time and has to be done with general anesthetics.

Ultrasound assisted lipoplasty is another technique in which sound waves targeted to fat tissue. The waves break the connection between the fat cells, which are then being removed by suction. This method can be used in areas with connective tissue like the back and male breasts and also in areas that require more precise suction.

After the surgery to avoid swelling the areas of the suction will have elastic bandages. The surgeon may also leave draining tubes to prevent fluid collection. You might also receive antibiotics to prevent an infection.

Every surgery has its complications. In liposuction of 5 liter of fat and more there is a risk of fat or clot emboli to the lungs and even death. Extra fluids might be difficult to remove. The suction tube may cause skin necrosis or alter sensation in the area due to nerve damage. The ultrasound technique regarded as relatively safe produces, but it is a new one therefore the long term damage still unknown. In general, the surgery presents an extra rick for patients with diabetes, lung and heart disease and for those who had similar procedure in the past.

  • The European Medicines Agency (EMEA) has recommended the approval of Thalidomide Pharmion (thalidomide) for the treatment of multiple myeloma, a rare cancer of the bone marrow. The Agency’s Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) has concluded that the benefits of Thalidomide Pharmion® in combination with melphalan and prednisone outweigh its risks for the first-line treatment of multiple myeloma for patients over 65 years of age or who cannot be treated with high-dose chemotherapy. Thalidomide is teratogenic and because of this, the CHMP has consulted representatives of thalidomide victims and myeloma patient groups from across the European Union to develop measures that can effectively minimise the risk of foetal exposure to thalidomide. The CHMP has approved a risk management plan that includes a number of actions intended to prevent pregnancies in women being treated with thalidomide and exposure of unborn children to the medicine. For example, all women of child-bearing potential who are treated with Thalidomide Pharmion must undergo pregnancy tests before, during and after treatment, in addition to using selected and effective contraception. Subject to the granting of a marketing authorisation by the European Commission, Thalidomide Pharmion will only be available by prescription, and treatment will be initiated and monitored by a doctor who has experience in the treatment of multiple myeloma. A clear warning will be printed on the boxes containing the medicine, indicating that Thalidomide Pharmion causes birth defects and foetal death. Educational materials will be provided to healthcare professionals and patients by Pharmion Ltd prior to the launch of Thalidomide Pharmion in each Member State to ensure the safe use of the product.

  • The assessment and management of an acute pain crisis in the setting of advanced illness is challenging. Using the case of Mr X, a 33-year-old man with advanced metastatic mucinous adenocarcinoma of the appendix and "15 out of 10" pain, we explore the issues of acute pain and its management. We define a pain crisis as an event in which the patient reports pain that is severe, uncontrolled, and causing distress for the patient, family members, or both. Our management strategy focuses on making a pain diagnosis, differentiating reversible from intractable causes of pain, and making decisions about further workup; selecting the opioid and monitoring and treating opioid adverse effects; titrating and rotating opioid and coanalgesics; consulting experts to treat a pain crisis as quickly as possible to prevent unnecessary suffering; and co-opting the available institutional resources. The timely intervention of a palliative care team and its expertise can provide the staff, patients, and their families the benefit of an interdisciplinary approach and help the patients address goals of care; understand the benefits and risks of treatment decisions; and meet the psychological, social, and existential needs of the patient and the family commonly seen in this setting.
